Georgia Transmission Joins Georgia DNR Partnership Program

February 23, 2011

GTC Commits to Improving Environmental Performance

Georgia Transmission Corporation (GTC) has joined the Partnership for a Sustainable Georgia (PSG), a program of the Sustainability Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. As a Silver Level PSG Partner, GTC will build upon its current efforts to help protect Georgia’s environmental resources in a cost-effective manner.

“We are proud to become a Silver Level Partner with the Department of Natural Resources,” said Mike Smith, president and CEO of GTC. “By joining this program, GTC will become part of a group that leads by example, setting the standard for environmental excellence in Georgia.”

Preserving and protecting the environment are strong initiatives for GTC. In addition to the DNR Partnership, GTC upholds its professional commitment to protect Georgia’s resources through participation in a number of organizations, including MillionMile Greenway, a non-profit group that is working to connect and preserve green space; Project Wings and Energy for Wildlife, two non-game conservation programs administered by the DNR; and Rivers Alive, an annual volunteer waterway clean-up event. Additionally, in 2010, GTC received the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification for its warehouse in Forsyth, Ga. – the first LEED certification awarded for a private, new construction building in Middle Georgia. The LEED rating system is the national standard for high-performance sustainable buildings.

Established in 2004, the Partnership for a Sustainable Georgia Program fosters environmental leadership and recognizes superior environmental performance. Participants may qualify for champion, bronze, silver or gold partnership levels that are based on goals and environmental initiatives.
