At Georgia Transmission, our role is to help ensure the communities served by local Electric Membership Corporations (EMCs) across the state have access to safe, reliable and cost-effective electricity today and in the years ahead. Reliable electric transmission infrastructure doesn’t happen overnight. It takes years of analysis, coordination and engagement to make sure the right solutions are in place at the right time.

Planning begins with a continuous evaluation of the electric grid. Georgia Transmission is always assessing system performance, in addition to collaborating with our member EMCs to identify where future needs may arise. This includes studying how electricity flows across the grid, where capacity may be limited and how changing usage patterns could impact reliability. 

A proactive approach helps ensure that infrastructure investments are based on identified needs and support the long-term reliability of the system. In practice, that means evaluating multiple potential solutions and refining them through engineering analysis and community input before moving forward.

Before any project is proposed, teams evaluate potential solutions to address those needs. This work includes reviewing multiple options and coordinating with EMCs and other utilities that help manage Georgia’s integrated transmission system.
